Urine Porphyrins Profile – Assessment of Heme Metabolism and Toxic Metal Exposure
The Urine Porphyrins Profile from Doctor’s Data Laboratory provides valuable insight into heme metabolism, oxidative stress, and toxic metal exposure. Porphyrins are intermediate compounds produced during the body’s synthesis of heme—the oxygen-carrying component of hemoglobin. When heme biosynthesis is disrupted, abnormal porphyrin levels can accumulate in urine, indicating underlying metabolic dysfunction, toxic burden, or genetic abnormalities.
Elevated urinary porphyrins may be associated with mercury, arsenic, and lead exposure, as well as chemical toxicity, oxidative stress, anemias, and certain genetic disorders. This test measures individual porphyrin fractions to help pinpoint the type and potential source of disruption.
Notably, precoproporphyrins—strongly correlated with mercury exposure—are reported separately and normalized to uroporphyrin levels, increasing detection sensitivity even when heme synthesis is low.
This non-invasive urine test requires a first morning void (FMV) for analysis.
Useful For Evaluating:
-
Anemia or impaired heme synthesis
-
Autism spectrum disorders
-
Oxidative stress and mitochondrial dysfunction
-
Genetic metabolic disorders
-
Nutritional deficiencies affecting heme production
-
Toxic chemical or heavy metal exposure (mercury, arsenic, lead)
WHY CHOOSE THIS TEST
The Urine Porphyrins Profile offers an effective way to detect toxic metal exposure and metabolic disruption that may not be apparent through other testing methods. Results guide detoxification, nutritional support, and clinical management strategies to restore cellular balance and improve overall health.
INCLUDES
✅ Urine Porphyrins Profile (FMV or 24-Hour Collection)
