Description

This is a combination saliva and blood spot test for women who would like to evaluate adrenal function, sex hormones and thyroid function. Estradiol, Progesterone, Testosterone, DHEA-S and four timed cortisol measurements are taken in the saliva. Thyroid Stimulating Hormone (TSH), Free T3, Free T4 and Thyroid Peroxidase Antibody (TPOab) are measured in the blood spot.

This test is appropriate for women who want to get an overall evaluation of the interaction of three key endocrine glands – adrenals, thyroid and ovaries. Examining the hormonal output of each of these endocrine glands allows us to see the interaction and influence that these glands have on each other. Symptoms related to adrenal, thyroid or ovarian dysfunction can have a similar presentation so it is important to know where the dysfunction lies so that it can be addressed appropriately.

For women who are menstruating regularly with a cycle length of 28-32 days, samples should be collected on day 19, 20 or 21 of your cycle with day one being the first day of menses. This allows us to see if adequate progesterone is being produced in the second half or luteal phase of your cycle.

For women who have irregular cycles, wait until menses occurs then follow the day count as described above. For women who are in menopause, collection on any day will be fine.

Test Requirements
This test can be done at home and requires four timed salivary measurements and a morning blood spot collection. Follow kit instructions on freezing saliva, drying the blood spots and prepping the kit for shipment back to the lab.
