The urinary N-Telopeptide (NTx) test measures the degree of bone remodeling or bone turnover. This test does not measure bone density like a DEXA scan (dual-energy x-ray absorptiometry) but can be used as a valuable tool measuring the treatment response for osteopenia or osteoporosis because it reveals the dynamic pattern of bone building and breakdown. The NTx test can be used more frequently than an annual DEXA scan allowing for close monitoring of bone density support programs. This test is commonly used with the Meridian Valley Calcium test to measure the amount of calcium excreted in the urine.
Indications for the NTx Test:
* Osteoporosis/Osteopenia
* Increasing Age
* Small stature
* Menopause
* Amenorrhea in pre-menopausal women
* Low testosterone levels in men
* Long-term use of corticosteroids
* Chronic disease
Test Requirements:
* Single 2nd morning urine collection (Test# 3003)
* 24-hour urine collection if done with the Calcium Test (Test# 7118)
INCLUDES:
√ Lab Test √ Doctor’s Review of Test Results √ Doctor’s Recommended Course of Action
NOTE:This test is not available to residents of New York or Maryland. Any orders originating from these states will automatically be canceled. Any samples originating from these states will be discarded.
