The Cortisol Awakening Response Profile provides an assessment of the hypothalamic-pituitary-adrenal (HPA) axis response to daily stressors through six timed salivary measurements of cortisol along with a single measurement of DHEA-S. The addition of the Cortisol Awakening Response allows us to assess our immediate response to a stressor. In this case, the stressor is waking from sleep. By measuring three timed cortisol values within the first hour of waking, we can easily see how well the body responds to an immediate stressor which reveals either a healthy response, a suppressed response or an elevated response. This additional data allows us to be more selective about the kind of support needed to restore healthy HPA axis function.
Indications for This Test
Adrenal Insufficiency/HPA Axis Dysfunction – fatigue, nervousness, weakness, sugar cravings, insomnia, dizzy spells, headaches, decreased stamina, poor immunity, irritability and weight gain, difficulty waking in the morning, anxiety upon waking.
